The federal government has introduced a 50% discount on toll charges nationwide to facilitate travel during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that the initiative is expected to involve approximately RM21.03 million in compensation payments to toll concessionaires.
The discount period will commence at 12.01am on March 18 and conclude at 11.59pm on March 19. This benefit is specifically applicable to Class 1 private vehicles.
However, the Prime Minister clarified that the discount will not be applied at border entry points, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building and Tanjung Kupang toll plazas.
Support for vulnerable groups through bankruptcy discharge
In addition to transport subsidies, the Prime Minister announced that the insolvency department will expedite the discharge of 4,000 individuals from bankruptcy. This initiative is primarily focused on supporting single parents ahead of the Aidilfitri festivities.
These measures serve as additional support alongside previously announced efforts, including an extra public holiday for the festive period and the early distribution of the second phase of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah aid. Civil servants are also receiving special cash assistance to assist with holiday expenses.
Financial discipline amid economic uncertainty
The Prime Minister emphasized that these initiatives are designed to help Malaysians manage the costs associated with the festive season.
Despite the government support, he reminded the public to maintain financial discipline and manage their resources carefully.
Highlighting the current climate of global economic uncertainty, the Prime Minister urged citizens to practice wise spending habits throughout the celebrations. The government remains focused on providing targeted relief while encouraging long-term financial responsibility among the population.
