Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised that he will not rush into a Cabinet reshuffle, as discussions with unity government leaders have yet to start.
He confirmed he has not yet met DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook or Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on the matter.
Anwar plans to consult party leaders thoroughly before making decisions, though the final call remains his prerogative.
He shared these thoughts with reporters after launching his new book “Rethinking Ourselves: Justice, Reform and Ignorance in Postnormal Times” at Pavilion Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.
Vacancies Await Filling in Key Portfolios
This upcoming shake-up marks Anwar’s second since taking office as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister in November 2022.
Four portfolios currently stand vacant: economy; natural resources and environmental sustainability; investment, trade and industry; and entrepreneur development and cooperatives.
Anwar admitted he already has potential names in mind but stressed the need for reflection after hearing views from all stakeholders.
Response to MCA’s Reform Suggestions
Anwar also responded to MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon’s recent call for him to relinquish the finance portfolio and replace Azam Baki as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief.
He welcomed the input but noted MCA had remained silent on these issues during past administrations when it held government roles.
“I thank him for his views, even though they are new,” Anwar said, adding that Chong never flagged concerns while in power before.
