Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed allegations that the government failed to act on an incident involving the desecration of the Quran, calling such claims unfounded.
Investigation Underway
Anwar said the authorities are carrying out a thorough investigation in full accordance with the law.
He emphasised that Malaysia is governed by the rule of law, not by emotion or speculation.
In a statement yesterday, he said: “This country is governed by the rule of law, not emotion and speculation.”
Anwar stressed that any action must follow proper legal process rather than being driven by social media perceptions or emotional pressure.
He urged everyone to leave the matter entirely to the authorities and to avoid speculation or statements that could disturb public harmony.
Student Remanded in Pahang Case
Reports stated that a student from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) had been remanded to assist police in investigating an alleged insult to Islam after stepping on the Quran.
Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman said on Friday that the investigation paper for the case had been completed.
Kuantan police chief Ashari Abu Samah added that the remand of the 21-year-old student, originally set to end yesterday, had been extended until March 3.
The extension came on instructions from the deputy public prosecutor to allow further action needed to finalise the investigation.
