ersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin has been summoned to face the party’s disciplinary board over allegations of attempting to sabotage the 2025 annual general assembly and undermine the leadership.
Second summons issued
In a notice dated February 6, the disciplinary board stated this is the second time Hamzah has been called, following an earlier summons in October last year which he did not attend.
The board accused Hamzah of failing to act against several party figures, including former Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who was later sacked. Complaints dated September 30, 2025, claimed Hamzah knew about a September 6 meeting where plans were discussed to disrupt the 2025 assembly but did nothing to stop it.
He is also alleged to have failed to prevent statements and press conferences by figures later expelled, actions said to have embarrassed president Muhyiddin Yassin and harmed Bersatu’s image.
Allegations of unauthorised negotiations
Another charge is that Hamzah did not stop Wan Saiful from negotiating with presidents of Perikatan Nasional component parties without Bersatu’s mandate, including on issues rejected by the party’s political bureau and supreme leadership council.
“The respondent ought to have disciplined his supporters by issuing firm instructions and preventing them from causing disruptions, attacking party leaders and damaging the party’s image, and carrying out movements aimed at embarrassing, weakening, and toppling Bersatu’s founding president,” the notice read.
Three fresh complaints dated February 5 this year further accuse Hamzah of involvement in collecting statutory declarations by misusing decisions from the Gopeng retreat, sabotaging the 2025 assembly, and blocking a motion to retain Muhyiddin as Bersatu’s candidate for the 11th prime minister and as party president.
Remark in Parliament cited
The board also highlighted a January 28 remark Hamzah made to reporters in Parliament: “I wasn’t even invited, so how could I be told to attend?”
Hamzah must attend a hearing on February 12 at the party headquarters. The notice warned that failure to appear could result in a decision being made in his absence.
Two Selangor Bersatu leaders had earlier called for action against Hamzah, including possible expulsion, if he is found responsible for the internal crisis. Political analysts noted that the opposition leader is unlikely to step down voluntarily and will await the party’s outcome.
Hamzah has denied any strained relations with Muhyiddin, though he remains linked to internal manoeuvres that triggered disciplinary steps against several MPs, including the expulsion of Wan Saiful and Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah, as well as the suspension of Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
It was reported yesterday that at least six other party leaders, including division chiefs and figures from Sabah Bersatu, have also been summoned to the disciplinary board on February 12 over separate 2025-related incidents.
