PAS ulama chief Ahmad Yahaya has refuted claims by the party’s spiritual leader Hashim Jasin that no action was taken on the Perlis menteri besar issue.
Party Leadership Has Acted Internally
In a Facebook post, Ahmad said the PAS central committee, led by party president Abdul Hadi Awang, has been actively addressing the matter.
He explained that the party has carried out investigations, offered advice, and closely monitored developments in Perlis PAS and the state government, in line with party policy.
Such processes are not limited to Perlis. Similar oversight is applied in other PAS-led states, including Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
“Everything was done internally and carefully to ensure the stability of the state government and party unity,” he wrote.
Ahmad stressed that even if there were flaws or shortcomings in Perlis, the situation should never have escalated to the point where the menteri besar was removed, especially with an election approaching.
He added that the matter should have been left entirely to the PAS central committee to handle and decide, in order to protect the interests of all involved.
Call for Discipline and Patience
Ahmad urged all parties to refrain from slander, uphold party discipline, and allow the ongoing investigation into the Perlis menteri besar situation to proceed without interference.
His statement came in response to earlier remarks by Hashim Jasin, who said an internal issue involving former menteri besar Shukri Ramli had been raised with the central committee three years ago.
Hashim said he personally reported the unwarranted matter to the party leadership, including the president, but no further steps were taken, according to a report in Utusan Malaysia.
Background on Terminations and Resignation
Three PAS assemblymen—Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong), and Saad Seman (Chuping)—saw their party memberships terminated on December 24, 2025, after allegedly signing statutory declarations withdrawing support for Shukri.
Shukri later resigned and was replaced by Kuala Perlis assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah of Bersatu.
On February 1, the PAS syura council announced it had accepted the three assemblymen’s applications to reinstate their memberships.
However, the council declined to rule on their appeal, stating the issue fell outside its jurisdiction.
