Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah has called for Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin to resign, citing a decline in the leadership qualities that once defined the former prime minister. The demand signals growing discontent within the party.
Saifuddin claimed that Muhyiddin no longer exhibits the manners, knowledge, and skill he displayed when founding Bersatu.
“He has lost his leadership qualities. He is no longer the Muhyiddin we once knew,” Saifuddin said, confirming that he and other party members have issued a joint statement urging Muhyiddin’s resignation.
Saifuddin criticized Muhyiddin’s handling of Bersatu’s leadership, describing it as lacking inclusivity. He pointed to the absence of Supreme Council meetings as a key issue.
“He hasn’t called for meetings, so how are we supposed to discuss anything? If he can’t even find his son-in-law, how are we supposed to find him?” Saifuddin said, highlighting communication breakdowns.
Calls for Senior Leaders to Step Down
In addition to Muhyiddin, Saifuddin urged two senior leaders, Mohamed Azmin Ali and Faisal Ismail Aziz, to relinquish their posts.
He accused Azmin, the reappointed secretary-general, of undermining his credibility through a video scandal and autocratic behavior, including issuing a “draconian” letter.
Saifuddin also labeled Faisal, the information chief, a “chief provocateur” for failing to effectively disseminate party information.
Saifuddin emphasized that the call for resignations aims to safeguard Bersatu, not destroy it. “What we are doing does not violate the party constitution. We are not trying to tarnish the party, but to save it from those who are already tarnishing it,” he said, framing the move as a bid to prevent further damage under the current leadership.
The public challenge underscores internal tensions within Bersatu, raising questions about its future direction as members seek to restore its credibility and unity.
