Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has called for calm and restraint following a public dispute between two senior party leaders, urging members to channel concerns through proper procedures to avoid weakening the party and giving rivals an opportunity to exploit internal divisions.
In a statement released today, Muhyiddin acknowledged the anxiety among party members over recent challenges but stressed the importance of resolving issues through established mechanisms. “Failure to do so not only undermines Bersatu but could also be exploited by our opponents,” he cautioned.
He emphasized the need for composure and trust in the party’s processes, stating, “In such situations, it is vital we remain calm, disciplined, and confident that issues will be resolved through proper channels. The disciplinary board has been tasked to investigate the matter and deliver a fair and transparent decision. We should trust this process.”
The call for unity follows a public spat involving Bersatu Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who announced plans to refer secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali to the disciplinary board over alleged threats against division leaders. Wan Saiful claimed these threats were linked to a supposed plot to oust Muhyiddin as president. Additionally, he intends to file a similar complaint against Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
Wan Saiful, the Tasek Gelugor MP, further questioned Azmin’s suitability as a leader, citing an unresolved controversy surrounding a leaked explicit video allegedly involving Azmin. Two days ago, Azmin dismissed Wan Saiful’s claims about “new information” related to the video, accusing him of slander and failing to rely on factual evidence.
Muhyiddin reminded members that Bersatu’s mission transcends internal conflicts. “Our struggle is far greater – strengthening Bersatu, bolstering Perikatan Nasional, and defending the people’s interests. We must not let internal challenges distract us from this goal,” he said.
