Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, widely known as Peja, has lauded party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s seasoned leadership in steering the young party through political challenges. Despite its relatively recent formation, Bersatu has weathered significant trials, including defections driven by external pressures or inducements, Faizal said in a statement today.
“Leaders may come and go, but the struggle remains,” Faizal remarked, emphasizing the party’s growth and resilience. He highlighted that Bersatu’s nationwide membership has reached an encouraging level, underscoring the party’s expanding influence under Muhyiddin’s steady guidance. “The party’s age is not an obstacle to making major decisions with the leadership of the experienced Muhyiddin,” he added.
Commitment to People’s Welfare
Faizal, the former Tambun MP, expressed confidence that Bersatu would overcome its current difficulties and remain focused on advocating for the public, particularly in addressing economic challenges attributed to the government’s shortcomings. “With the tireless efforts of our leaders at all levels, Bersatu will rise again, stronger and more successful,” he asserted. He envisioned the party leading the nation toward a brighter future for Malaysians.
Internal Strife and Allegations
The remarks come amid escalating tensions within Bersatu, sparked by allegations from Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan. He claimed that secretary-general Azmin Ali and information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz had threatened division leaders allegedly involved in a plot to oust Muhyiddin as president. Wan Saiful clarified that the collection of signatures from division chiefs was not intended to remove Muhyiddin but to oppose discussions on the party’s prime ministerial candidate during its annual general meeting (AGM) on September 9, 2025.
Muhyiddin himself addressed the issue at the AGM, revealing that certain quarters were gathering signatures to challenge his leadership. Despite these internal conflicts, Faizal’s statement underscores Bersatu’s determination to remain united and focused on its mission to serve the people.
