Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman Hamzah Zainudin confirmed he was not invited to the coalition’s pre-council meeting scheduled at Muhyiddin Yassin’s residence tonight.
The Bersatu deputy president gave a short reply when asked by reporters whether he would attend the session at Muhyiddin’s home in Kuala Lumpur.
“With no invitation, how can I attend?” Hamzah said.
Muhyiddin, the former PN chairman, had invited all PN party presidents to what he described as a “pre-council” discussion at his residence this evening.
Supreme Council meeting cancelled
Earlier, PN deputy secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan had called for an extraordinary Supreme Council meeting tonight to appoint a new chairman.
Takiyuddin, who is also a lawyer, pointed out that the PN constitution makes no provision for a “pre-council” meeting.
Nevertheless, he announced that the Supreme Council meeting had been cancelled to allow the gathering at Muhyiddin’s house to proceed.
He described the situation as “a storm in a teacup” and said cancelling one meeting avoided the impossible scenario of anyone attending two events at the same time in different locations.
Takiyuddin told reporters he would not reveal whether PAS would be attending the meeting at Muhyiddin’s residence.
Background to the scheduling conflict
Muhyiddin had previously stated that he did not receive any notice and was not invited to the extraordinary Supreme Council meeting.
Takiyuddin explained that this was because Muhyiddin was no longer a member of the Supreme Council after tendering his resignation, effective January 1, 2026.
