Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has informed Rafizi Ramli, the Member of Parliament for Pandan from Pakatan Harapan, that he cannot publicly confirm specific details shared with him last month about the ongoing investigation into the mastermind behind the attack on Rafizi’s son.
Parliamentary Reply on Disclosure Request
In a written reply to Parliament yesterday, the home minister explained that revealing such information publicly could hinder the authorities’ efforts to locate the suspects and potentially endanger the safety of important witnesses.
“Therefore, your request cannot be granted,” Saifuddin stated.
He added that the ministry is committed to upholding justice without any compromise. Any updates that can be shared publicly without jeopardising the investigation will be released through official channels by the ministry or the police when appropriate.
Background of the Incident
Rafizi had requested confirmation of certain information personally conveyed to him on December 1 regarding the authorities’ findings on the mastermind of the attack on his 12-year-old son.
The incident occurred around 2pm on August 13 at a shopping mall in Putrajaya. CCTV footage captured two men on a motorcycle following the car carrying Rafizi’s wife before the assault took place.
Rafizi’s son was dragged and jabbed with a syringe by the assailants, who then fled the scene. The boy was promptly taken to hospital for medical treatment and examination.
Rafizi, the former deputy president of PKR, described the attack as premeditated. He believed his wife had been under observation for several days prior, and suggested the incident might be connected to a matter he was examining after meeting whistleblowers a week earlier.
His wife later received a threatening text message that read: “Be quiet. If you continue, AIDS.”
Police Update on Investigation
Last October, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail noted that the police were still awaiting the chemistry report on the liquid contained in the syringe used during the attack.
The ministry assures the public that the investigation remains active and will proceed with full integrity.
