Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened on Sunday to continue pursuing and killing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as the group claimed strikes on three U.S. air bases in the region.
The attacks were identified as part of the 52nd wave of Operation True Promise 4. Meanwhile, the office of the Israeli leader has dismissed social media claims regarding his assassination, labeling them as fake news.
In a statement reported by the semi-official Fars News Agency, the IRGC claimed to have targeted a gathering center of U.S. forces at Al-Harir Air Base in Erbil. The group also stated it struck the Ali Al Salem and Arifjan bases in Kuwait using powerful Iranian missiles and drones.
Escalation under Operation True Promise 4
The IRGC described the strikes as retaliation for the killing of workers in Iranian industrial zones. In addition to the military bases, the statement noted that Tel Aviv’s industrial zones were targeted with heavy missiles during this latest wave of activity.
Addressing the status of the Israeli Prime Minister, the IRGC statement warned that if he remains alive, the group will continue to pursue him with full force.
In the wake of the ballistic missile attack, Israeli Channel 12 reported that two people sustained light injuries in Holon, located in central Israel.
Dismissal of assassination rumors
Following the circulation of rumors, Netanyahu’s office told the Anadolu Agency (AA) that social media claims suggesting the Prime Minister had been assassinated had no basis in reality. The office confirmed that he is fine.
Speculation had intensified after the Prime Minister participated in an online press conference on March 13. Observers noted that air raid sirens were not heard at his location during the meeting, leading to the spread of alleged AI-generated videos on social media.
The Prime Minister’s office maintained that such claims are entirely groundless and that the leader continues his duties.
Surge in regional tensions
Regional instability has increased sharply since a joint attack by the U.S. and Israel on Iran on Feb 28. That operation resulted in at least 1,300 deaths, including the then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran has launched a series of drone and missile strikes across Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf countries that host U.S. military assets.
These retaliatory actions have caused significant casualties and damage to infrastructure. Furthermore, the ongoing conflict continues to cause severe disruptions to global markets and international aviation.
