Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking has slammed Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Yong Teck Lee for blaming Warisan over the lack of Chinese representation in the newly formed GRS–BN–UPKO–PH Cabinet.
Leiking said the accusation was “confused, if not delusional”, as Warisan is not part of the government and Cabinet appointments are solely the chief minister’s prerogative.
He said if SAPP was unhappy with the limited Chinese representation, their questions should be directed at the ruling coalition instead of the Opposition.
Giving an example, he asked why duly elected representative Ben Chong was not appointed a deputy chief minister or full minister, but only an assistant minister.
Leiking added that two more nominated assemblymen of Chinese ethnicity were appointed yesterday, showing the process is still ongoing.
He reaffirmed Warisan’s commitment to ensuring equal treatment for all Sabahans regardless of ethnicity or creed, based on merit and fairness.
The Election Commission announced in the early hours of Sunday that GRS had won 29 seats, while its ally Pakatan Harapan (PH), led by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, secured one seat through the premier’s own Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Warisan, a bitter rival of the GRS-PH bloc, came in second with 25 seats. BN won six seats.
