
Malaysia’s women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah delivered a remarkable performance at the 2025 BWF World Championships final, finishing as runners-up after a thrilling three-game battle against China’s world No. 1 pair Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning.
The match lasted 40 minutes and showcased Pearly-Thinaah’s fighting spirit. They lost the opening game 14-21 as Liu/Tan’s relentless attacks proved too difficult to counter. However, the Malaysians fought back bravely in the second game, overturning the score to lead 16-14 before clinching it 22-20, forcing the match into a decider.
In the deciding third game, Liu/Tan regained control and showed their composure as the world’s top-ranked pair, sealing victory 21-17. Despite falling short of the world title, Pearly and Thinaah made history by becoming the first Malaysian women’s doubles pair to reach the World Championships final and win a silver medal.
