Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party had never instructed its Perlis assemblymen to sign any statutory declarations amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
He said Bersatu only submitted the names of its menteri besar candidates after being requested to do so by the Perlis Palace.
Muhyiddin added that the party would hear from its assemblymen to gain a clearer understanding of the situation.
He said he had been following developments closely since the resignation of Perlis menteri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, and stressed that no directive had been issued to Bersatu assemblymen to sign statutory declarations.
“Muhyiddin said “Perikatan Nasional respects Pas as the leading party of the coalition in Perlis,” he said in a statement today.
He expressed hope that the issue surrounding the menteri besar’s position could be resolved in the spirit of unity within the PN family.
Muhyiddin said PN’s component parties had their own ways of prudently handling issues to ensure stability and continuity in Perlis.
He also emphasised that PN respects the discretionary authority of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, and adheres to the Perlis State Constitution in the appointment of the menteri besar.
