PAS has confirmed that its newly elected Karambunai assemblyman Aliakbar Gulasan will support Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor’s administration.
Deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the decision will help strengthen Hajiji’s leadership and ensure state government stability.
Although Aliakbar will not sit in the Cabinet, he is familiar with the administration from his earlier role as a nominated assemblyman.
Shift from Perikatan’s Earlier Stance
The announcement appears to contradict Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement yesterday that Aliakbar would join the opposition.
Tuan Ibrahim explained that, having now won a public mandate, Aliakbar’s support will better enable him to serve his Karambunai constituents.
Historic Win for PAS in Sabah
Aliakbar created history by securing PAS’s first ever elected seat in the November 29 state election.
He polled 7,054 votes in an 11-cornered fight, defeating rivals from Warisan, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Barisan Nasional.
Gabungan Rakyat Sabah leads the state government with support from Pakatan Harapan, BN, Upko and independents, while Warisan forms the main opposition.
