PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin endorses deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man for the next Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairmanship.
The post opened up after Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin quit on January 1, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Fits Islamic leadership ideals
Hashim acknowledged other contenders like PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar but highlighted Tuan Ibrahim’s fit with four Islamic leader traits: God-fearing, following teachings, afterlife readiness, and livelihood contentment.
“Tuan Ibrahim suits PN chairmanship best,” Hashim said. “A moderate who avoids rash moves and party friction.”
He sees Tuan Ibrahim mending PAS-Bersatu strains from Perlis, where menteri besar shifted from PAS to Bersatu.
Hashim noted Tuan Ibrahim’s seniority over Samsuri in PAS ranks.
Contenders and support
PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang declined the role. Tuan Ibrahim and Samsuri emerge as top names.
Hadi’s son-in-law, Sungai Buloh PAS chief Zaharudin Muhammad, backed Tuan Ibrahim and warned against Samsuri, saying it harms PAS and Malaysia.
Tuan Ibrahim defended Samsuri, calling Zaharudin’s view detached from reality and unrepresentative of PAS.
