A PAS leader has called on Perikatan Nasional to remain open to accepting any party or organisation that shares its aspirations, emphasising the need for political maturity to strengthen the coalition.
Embrace magnanimity for the nation’s future
Iskandar Abdul Samad said PN leaders must show magnanimity by putting aside past disputes and conflicts in the interest of the country’s future.
“They should avoid projecting any image that suggests a desire for revenge, as the people are always watching and judging,” he said in a statement.
Iskandar, who serves as PAS treasurer, stressed that these were his personal views.
Statesman-like qualities over grudges
“A statesman should not harbour grudges. Instead, a statesman must be able to look towards a greater objective,” he added.
Although he did not name any specific leader, the statement came a day after reports that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said he would oppose any effort for his former deputy, Hamzah Zainudin, to rejoin PN under a new party.
Muhyiddin reportedly described Hamzah, who was sacked from Bersatu last month amid a bitter feud, as no longer trustworthy.
Context of recent developments
Hamzah has confirmed discussions to take over Parti Keluarga Malaysia, with the party’s founder, Khairi Jaya, saying the takeover was “90% confirmed”.
Broader inclusivity for PN
Iskandar also said PN should not be seen as an exclusive platform for Malays. Instead, it should serve as a platform for all Malaysians who reject extremism and chauvinism in any form.
Following his expulsion from Bersatu, Hamzah said his “Reset” movement aims to build a new national consensus that genuinely unites people of all races, religions and regions, while pushing for reform of institutions, systems and laws.
