PAS has stated that it is up to the authorities to investigate Mahathir Mohamad’s allegation that Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin misappropriated party funds.
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said only a proper investigation can establish the truth of the claim.
“Mahathir’s accusation is against a former prime minister who no longer holds power,” he told FMT.
“If the police see grounds for it, they should proceed with an investigation.”
More Concern Over PKR Revelations
The Pasir Mas MP added that revelations by former PKR Wangsa Maju chief Lai Chen Heng were potentially more damaging.
“If these are not thoroughly investigated, how can the people trust the country’s governance?” he asked.
In October, PKR’s disciplinary board suspended Lai for a year after a video surfaced showing him discussing financial contributions to his division from a prominent businessman.
Lai described them as “unaudited funds” linked to a senior political leader, but later said the clip was selectively edited and spread maliciously.
Muhyiddin Denies Allegations
Last week, Muhyiddin, who also chairs Perikatan Nasional, rejected Mahathir’s claim in a viral video that he stole and kept party funds at home.
He insisted all party contributions were deposited into official accounts managed by the treasurer-general.
Johor Bersatu Youth described a video from their recent meeting with Mahathir as “misleading”, claiming it was edited to serve certain political interests.
Calls for Police Report
PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim urged Muhyiddin to lodge a police report, calling Mahathir’s allegation “very serious”.
However, Muhyiddin said he has no plans to take legal action against the veteran politician.
He explained that he respects Mahathir and supports his efforts to promote Malay unity.
