Penang PAS has endorsed a proposal by a Gerakan leader for the party to contest the next general election under its own logo, viewing it as a strategic move to enhance voter appeal. Penang PAS information chief Fawwaz Jan described the strategy as a “winning” approach, emphasizing that every party within Perikatan Nasional (PN) has the autonomy to shape its own electoral tactics.
“Penang PAS welcomes any initiative that boosts public confidence, provided PN’s component parties maintain mutual understanding, unity, and alignment with our collective goals,” Fawwaz said in a statement. He highlighted the effectiveness of individual party logos as a potent “weapon” in securing victories in several states during the 15th general election.
The Permatang Pauh MP stressed that, despite the use of distinct logos, PN’s member parties remain united in their commitment to promoting good governance and rejecting divisive politics. “PAS will continue to collaborate closely with Gerakan and other PN partners to realize the aspirations of the people in Penang and across Malaysia,” he affirmed.
The endorsement follows a call by Penang Gerakan Youth chief Tan Zhen Zune for the party to reassess its electoral strategy in the state after two consecutive losses under the PN banner. Tan suggested that Gerakan might strengthen its position by contesting under its own logo, a move he believes could resonate more effectively with voters.
