Perikatan Nasional has asserted that the identities of individuals linked to businessman Victor Chin’s allegations of a so-called corporate mafia should only be established through an official investigation.
The opposition coalition secretary-general, Takiyuddin Hassan, cautioned against purported exposés to prevent speculation that could damage the reputation of innocent parties.
He described the allegations made by Chin as serious and demanded a transparent probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Royal Malaysia Police.
Warning against speculation and unofficial disclosures
In a statement, Takiyuddin urged that the identity of those involved be determined only through legitimate investigative processes. He noted that this is crucial to avoid sparking unnecessary speculation that could affect the integrity of the individuals involved.
The businessman, Victor Chin, recently released a 40-page statement alleging that an unnamed MP from PKR had requested RM10 million in cash to resolve legal issues involving the purported corporate mafia.
Chin claimed that he transferred RM9.5 million to the lawmaker on 18th October last year. He also accused an individual referred to as Mr R of collaborating with the corporate mafia to seize control of NexG Bhd and its related shareholdings through coercion.
Political reactions and calls for government clarity
The allegations have already triggered various responses within the political sphere. Former PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli stated his intention to reveal the identity of Mr R today.
Meanwhile, PKR vice-president R Ramanan has denied any personal involvement in the alleged corporate mafia and criticised the decision to amplify these claims.
Takiyuddin, who previously served as the law minister, urged both the government and the PKR leadership to respond to these serious claims with a clear and thorough explanation.
Maintaining public confidence in anti-corruption efforts
He stressed that the way these allegations are handled will directly impact the people’s trust in the administration.
According to Takiyuddin, any failure to address these claims openly and with integrity will undermine confidence in the government’s stated commitment to combating corruption and the abuse of power.
The coalition remains firm that only a formal legal process can provide the clarity needed to resolve the controversy surrounding NexG Bhd and the alleged bribery.
