Police have detained a local man and woman to assist investigations into a viral social media video showing an individual wearing a headscarf consuming alcohol.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director M. Kumar said the 22-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were arrested on Wednesday at about 4.30 p.m. in Subang Jaya.
He said preliminary investigations found that the individual wearing a headscarf and drinking alcohol in the video was a man.
Police have confirmed receiving a report on the video, which is being investigated by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (D5) under the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Kumar said police would take firm action against anyone who deliberately disregards religious sensitivities and creates disharmony, urging the public to be responsible on social media and avoid statements touching on 3R issues — religion, race and royalty.
