Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli will deliver a detailed response tonight to two serious allegations of misconduct made against him, including a claim linking him to a RM2.5 billion corruption case.
The Pandan MP said he would address the accusations fully during an episode of the “Yang Berhenti Menteri” podcast, scheduled to air at 10pm.
Response to Caprice’s claims
In a Facebook post yesterday, Rafizi explained that social media influencer Ariz Ramli, better known as Caprice, had accused him of involvement in a large-scale 750-megawatt private solar project by UEM Lestra.
He stressed that the project had no connection whatsoever to the economy ministry, which he previously led.
“I am accused of awarding a contract to a company allegedly linked to me. This is yet another piece of slander being spread by Caprice,” Rafizi said.
Last Wednesday, Caprice stood by his claims after Rafizi threatened legal action, and uploaded screenshots and documents on social media as supporting evidence.
Addressing ARM Holdings agreement probe
Rafizi will also respond to separate allegations of misconduct involving a government agreement with global semiconductor giant ARM Holdings.
The matter is currently under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
According to Rafizi, the probe centres on whether the agreement was signed in haste, resulting in losses to the country.
Media reports have mentioned alleged misconduct amounting to RM1.1 billion linked to a “former senior minister”.
Last Monday, MACC confirmed it had launched an investigation following complaints from several NGOs, who claimed the deal was rushed and one-sided, potentially harming government interests.
Combined narrative dismissed as absurd
Rafizi noted that the two allegations together create a story suggesting his involvement in misappropriation totalling RM3.6 billion.
He described this as “absurd” and “an overkill”.
“I am accused of being involved in a scandal where the value exceeds that taken by former prime minister Najib Razak,” he said.
