Sabah Bersatu secretary Yunus Nurdin has firmly rejected claims that eight division chiefs were coerced into supporting demands for party president Muhyiddin Yassin to resign. He told FMT the allegations were baseless and meant to confuse the public. No documents or statutory declarations were signed at yesterday’s press conference.
No Coercion, Says Yunus
Yunus explained that the eight chiefs had only been invited to the state office to submit post-election reports. He insisted there was no pressure and the call for Muhyiddin to step down came from grassroots frustration. The party’s wipeout in the November 29 Sabah polls triggered the open criticism.
Funding Failure Blamed for Defeat
The division chiefs were angry that promised election funds never arrived, leaving candidates without proper logistics. Yunus said Muhyiddin once told Sabah members to print their own flags if they wanted to contest. Even PN election director Hamzah Zainudin had to dip into personal funds to help candidates.
Yunus remains unfazed by possible disciplinary action, saying silence would make them look like yes-men. He warned that the same problems could repeat in upcoming Melaka and Johor polls unless leadership changes. Bersatu won zero seats this time, down from 11 in 2020, while PAS took Karambunai.
