A senior Sabah Bersatu figure has publicly urged Muhyiddin Yassin to resign as party president and Perikatan Nasional chairman after the coalition’s crushing defeat in Saturday’s state election.
Zero Seats Seen as Embarrassing Defeat
Sabah Bersatu secretary Yunus Nurdin described the party’s failure to win any of the 33 seats it contested as humiliating. He blamed poor handling of internal conflicts for eroding voter confidence. The result, he said, sent a clear signal that both Bersatu and PN require comprehensive renewal starting from the top.
Reset Must Begin with Leadership Change
Speaking in Kota Kinabalu, Yunus insisted the party needs fresh faces who are more responsive to members and voters. He stressed that asking Muhyiddin to relinquish both posts was not personal but essential for Bersatu’s survival. The grassroots, he added, were left devastated by the nightmare outcome and want to restore the party’s dignity.
