ZUS Coffee filed a police report after a customer threw coffee at a barista. The company condemned the act, assured the employee’s safety.
In an official statement released on Tuesday (Nov 12), the company confirmed that the employee involved, known as a “Zurista,” remains part of ZUS Coffee and is currently on paid leave to recover.
“A police report was lodged on Monday to ensure her safety and protect her privacy. Her well-being remains our utmost priority,” the statement read.
The incident, which occurred on Nov 9, went viral after a 15-second video circulated online showing a woman with a Chinese accent arguing with a Malay barista before throwing coffee and objects at her.
ZUS Coffee said it would take the incident as a learning opportunity to further strengthen its staff training and support systems.
“We recognise that customers come with different expectations. We will continue to build a culture that handles challenges with professionalism and empathy,” it added.
The company also urged the public to delete and stop circulating posts or videos revealing the identities of those involved, noting that continued sharing could cause lasting harm.
“At ZUS, we do not tolerate aggressive or disrespectful behaviour. We are committed to ensuring our stores remain safe spaces for both our team and customers,” the statement concluded.
