Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) plans to field its information chief Anuar Ghani for the Karanaan seat, long held by state finance minister Masidi Manjun, in the upcoming Sabah state election.
STAR’s Karanaan division has unanimously nominated Anuar, praising his grasp of local needs and strong professional credentials.
If the party approves, this could spark a key contest, as Masidi has held the seat for five terms since 2004.
Masidi, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah secretary-general, is tipped to run for a sixth term.
In the 2020 state election, he retained Karanaan with a 4814-vote majority while in Sabah Bersatu.
Candidate Background
Anuar, a trained lawyer, previously served as political secretary to deputy chief minister Jeffrey Kitingan, STAR’s president.
This marks his electoral debut.
He is the son of the late former federal minister Abdul Ghani Gilong from the United Sabah National Organisation.
