Former Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is not contesting in the party’s 2026 elections.
No direct leadership contests
This effectively rules him out of the race for top posts such as president or deputy president. Muda election director Muhammad Zaim Zulkafli explained that the electoral structure this year does not allow direct contests for these positions.
All qualified candidates are standing for the 25 Central Executive Committee seats.
How leadership will be decided
Delegates will vote for up to 25 candidates during polling. The 25 who receive the highest number of votes will form the new CEC.
The elected CEC members will then meet to decide internally who will hold the top leadership roles, including president, deputy president, vice-presidents and other key positions, in line with the party constitution.
This approach ensures the entire CEC receives a direct mandate from delegates before leadership assignments take place.
Next steps and candidate list
The CEC is expected to convene immediately after results are announced on March 14 to select the new leadership line-up.
Earlier, the central election committee confirmed 31 candidates as eligible after nominations closed at 9pm yesterday. Acting president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz is among those contesting, but Syed Saddiq’s name does not appear on the list.
Zaim said Syed Saddiq would issue a statement later today.
The official campaign period started today and runs until 11.59pm on March 13. All candidates must follow the party’s campaign regulations and ethics.
