Former MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker has described Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail’s comment that DAP exco members are easier to work with than MCA as “empty praise”.
In a Facebook post today, Ti said the statement indirectly suggests DAP has “shown its fangs, but has yet to bite”.
Defending MCA’s Contributions
Ti took issue with Wan Rosdy’s praise of DAP for giving “good advice” in the state executive council.
He pointed out that MCA had not only offered advice but had actively worked to repair roads, plug financial leakages and reduce wastage.
Ti added that DAP entered the political scene with the slogan “Asalkan Bukan Umno” (As Long As It’s Not Umno), which eventually led to MCA losing 90% of Chinese votes to DAP.
Unfulfilled Promises and Comparisons
He accused DAP of failing to deliver on promises such as issuing freehold land titles for residents of new villages.
Responding to Wan Rosdy’s claim that DAP supported state initiatives like extending financial aid to civil servants, Ti said MCA had also not opposed similar proposals in the past.
He noted that MCA previously supported cash aid equivalent to one-and-a-half months’ salary for civil servants without protest.
Proficiency and Representation
Ti further argued that MCA leaders have long been more fluent, polished and substantive in Malay compared to the two Pakatan Harapan exco members from Pahang – Leong Yu Man (DAP, Triang) and Sim Chon Siang (PKR, Teruntum).
He emphasised that MCA has consistently served as an effective messenger for the Chinese community, clearly conveying their issues to the menteri besar, who understood the hardships faced by non-Malays.
