U.S. President Donald Trump extended well-wishes to pop singer Taylor Swift and professional football player Travis Kelce following the announcement of their engagement.
“He’s a great player. I think he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck,” Mr. Trump said on Aug. 26 when asked by a reporter at the White House.
The engagement news emerged during a Cabinet meeting that extended beyond two hours.
Fox News interrupted its live coverage of the session to report the betrothal.
Mr. Trump offered these kind words for Swift despite his previous criticisms of the pop star, stemming from her endorsements of Democratic politicians.
After Swift backed Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, Mr. Trump posted on social media: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Earlier in August, he stated that he “can’t stand” Swift and that she had become “NO LONGER HOT,” drawing a comparison to actress Sydney Sweeney.
