President Donald Trump has stated that the ongoing US military operation in Iran, known as Operation Epic Fury, is projected to last four to five weeks, though it could extend longer if required.
Operation Timeline and Progress
Speaking at a White House ceremony on Monday, Trump noted that the campaign, which commenced on Saturday, is progressing ahead of schedule. He emphasised the US military’s capacity for a prolonged effort if necessary.
Trump tied the operation’s duration to the objective of dismantling Iran’s conventional missile infrastructure, which he described as a rapidly expanding threat. He highlighted Iran’s ballistic missile programme’s growth, stating it already possessed missiles capable of reaching Europe and US bases in the region, with potential soon to target the United States directly.
Key Objectives Outlined
Trump outlined clear goals for the mission. The United States is focused on destroying Iran’s missile capabilities and annihilating its navy, with reports indicating several ships already sunk. A core priority remains preventing Iran, described as the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism, from ever acquiring a nuclear weapon.
He affirmed the resolve to continue large-scale combat operations to eliminate threats from what he called a terrible regime, describing the offensive as the last best chance to address intolerable dangers.
Context of the Campaign
The operation follows joint US and Israeli strikes launched on February 28, which resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other senior security officials.
The US Central Command reported four American service members killed in action during the early days of the attacks. Trump expressed condolences to their families and pledged to press on with the mission in their memory, vowing ferocious and unyielding resolve to crush the threats posed to the American people.
