MCA president Wee Ka Siong has brushed aside calls to name his successor ahead of the 2027 party election, insisting the just-concluded general assembly was not the platform for such discussions.
He stressed that delegates focused on 13 key resolutions covering politics, economy, and education, rather than leadership transition.
“When the time comes, we will hold proper party elections,” Wee told reporters after the assembly closed in Kuala Lumpur today.
Survival First, Succession Later
Wee, who is serving his second term since 2018, said strengthening and ensuring MCA’s survival remain the immediate priorities.
He reminded members that the party has a strict nine-year limit for the presidency, which he will reach in 2027.
The president maintained his focus was on uniting the party rather than engaging in premature succession debates.
Response to Ti Lian Ker’s Criticism
Wee responded calmly to earlier remarks by former vice-president Ti Lian Ker, who accused him of dodging the leadership question and spending too much time criticising DAP.
While respecting Ti’s right to speak, Wee noted his former colleague chose to voice concerns on Facebook instead of attending the assembly.
He also clarified that his references to DAP were factual statements, not personal attacks.
