An Amanah leader has called for party vice-president Adly Zahari to be named Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) poster boy for the Nov 14 Melaka state election, citing his administrative experience and track record.
Federal Territories Amanah deputy chairman Hayatul Kamil said Adly’s experience as Melaka chief minister from 2018 to 2020 and federal deputy defence minister since December 2022 placed him ahead of other local PH leaders.
“This experience puts him at a higher standard than other local (PH) leaders, who may be more active merely at the state level.
“His administration is often viewed in a positive light by the people of Melaka because of his inclusive and people-friendly approach,” Hayatul said in a statement.
Adly seen as candidate for stability
The Bandar Tun Razak Amanah chief said naming Adly as PH’s chief minister candidate would send a message of stability and credibility ahead of the state election.
He said PH should decide on its poster boy early to prevent perceptions of internal power struggles and strengthen voter confidence.
Adly’s previous tenure as chief minister
Adly, who represented the Bukit Katil state constituency for two terms, served as Melaka chief minister for two years before his administration collapsed following the Sheraton Move.
Hayatul’s statement comes amid speculation that a PKR leader could be named PH’s candidate for chief minister in the Melaka polls.
