PAS Vice President Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has firmly ruled out the possibility of contesting the party’s presidency in the upcoming internal elections scheduled for September.
He stated that the responsibilities currently shouldered in his role as Vice President are already substantial and demanding.
“Even the position I hold now is a heavy responsibility. There is no question of me seeking any other post,” he told reporters during a visit to the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) station project in Alor Keladi today.
Ahmad Samsuri, who also serves as the Menteri Besar of Terengganu, stressed that the role of PAS President carries significant weight and responsibilities.
“No, I have no intention of contesting the PAS presidency,” he affirmed.
Commenting on fellow PAS Vice President Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah’s openness to being nominated for the Deputy President post, Ahmad Samsuri said the decision rests entirely with Mohd Amar himself.
“He said he wants to ‘observe the new moon’ first. Let him decide for himself — the decision lies entirely with him.”
When asked whether Mohd Amar’s potential candidacy for the party’s number two position could impact PAS leadership dynamics, Ahmad Samsuri maintained that PAS has always remained inclusive and open to leadership contributions from any member.
He added that the party has undergone numerous general assemblies over the years, and its institutional maturity allows it to adapt to internal developments effectively.
“The party will continue moving forward, regardless of the circumstances,” he concluded.
