Umno Youth chief Muhamad Akmal Saleh met party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday. The session happened at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
Akmal, also Merlimau assemblyman, laid out his intentions and feelings. He thanked Zahid for the patient hearing and sound advice. He kept discussion details private.
Akmal skipped word on keeping his roles. No clarity yet on staying put.
His Facebook post last night captured the moment. “I have expressed my heart and intentions to Zahid. Thank you for the advice and for being willing to listen.”
“God willing, may this be for the best for the struggle of religion, race, homeland, and Umno,” he wrote.
Zahid Awaits Announcement
Reports confirmed Zahid met Akmal yesterday. He offered advice for consideration.
The deputy prime minister said Akmal’s decision on resigning comes from him today.
Akmal promised to honour choices by Zahid and Melaka Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh. They chose him for the state seat race. They also appointed him Melaka Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security committee chairman.
Akmal earlier signalled stepping down. Zahid had rebuffed his pitch for Umno to quit the unity government.
