Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has differed with DAP over political cooperation for the Melaka state election, saying the coalition should seek allies to form a stable state government.
Amanah secretary-general Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said the party was more inclined to work with political partners it considered sincere rather than contesting on its own.
He said sincerity among coalition partners was important as it would form the basis for a stable government.
‘Amanah’s position is to seek sincere partners to govern Melaka. Sincerity will create stability in the government.
‘Without sincerity, the government will not be stable, as seen in Negri Sembilan when the “blue wave” turned into chaos,’ he said.
He spoke after attending the AgroMADANI Sales Programme and an engagement session with fishermen at the Tanjung Nibong Fishermen’s Complex in Telok Mas.
Also present were Agriculture and Food Security Minister’s political secretary Yuhaizad Abdullah and Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority state director Darleena Baharuddin.
Amanah differs with DAP
Muhammad Faiz was commenting on a statement by Melaka DAP chairman Khoo Poay Tiong, who was reported to have said that Pakatan Harapan (PH) Melaka would contest the state election on its own and would not cooperate with Bersatu or parties outside the coalition.
Khoo, who is also Melaka PH deputy chairman, was quoted as saying the coalition would contest all 28 state seats.
However, Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari said on Oct 1 that room for negotiations with various parties remained open, including the possibility of forming a PH Plus cooperation.
He said the final decision would be made by the PH Presidential Council before nomination day.
Door remains open for negotiations
Muhammad Faiz said that although there were differing views among PH component parties, Amanah had its own position.
‘There are views within PH against cooperating with parties outside the coalition.
‘We take those views into consideration, but from Amanah’s perspective, I believe it is better to unite with allies to form a stable government in Melaka.
‘The identity of potential partners cannot be revealed yet, but the door for negotiations with various parties remains open,’ he said.
He added that the decision on which allies would work with Amanah for the Melaka state election would be announced soon.
