Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has stressed the importance of dialogue and mutual respect in easing tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, following discussions with leaders of both countries.
Anwar said the talks focused on identifying the best path forward to preserve regional peace and stability.
He said any conflict must be addressed through peaceful means without undermining long-standing bilateral relations and cooperation.
“A dialogue-based approach grounded in mutual respect is crucial to ending tensions and safeguarding peace in the region,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Anwar described the ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled for Monday as the most appropriate platform for open and constructive negotiations.
He said the meeting would allow both sides to engage maturely, resolve differences peacefully, and work towards a fair and lasting solution.
Anwar added that ASEAN consistently upholds dialogue and consensus in addressing regional issues, in line with Malaysia’s commitment to peace, stability and cooperation.
