Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says the proposal for a forensic audit of Felda will be brought to the Cabinet for consideration.
According to Bernama, Anwar said the matter would be discussed at a Cabinet meeting.
He said this when met by reporters after the National Maulidur Rasul Celebration at Universiti Putra Malaysia in Serdang.
Zahid calls for forensic audit
On Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi called for a forensic audit of Felda to investigate various allegations, including abuse of power and governance failures.
Zahid said the probe should establish the causes of losses suffered by Felda and identify those responsible.
He also said he was open to the establishment of a royal commission of inquiry to investigate Felda, provided it was not intended to persecute or humiliate any individual.
However, he said those responsible should be brought to justice if there was strong evidence against them.
Felda facing nearly RM10 billion in losses
Earlier this month, Anwar said Felda was facing losses of nearly RM10 billion due to mismanagement and excessive political interference.
He was also reported to have said that the government would make public a report by a special task force on Felda in the near future.
The report is expected to include the task force’s findings on problems inherited by the agency.
