Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has flatly rejected allegations linking him to the ownership of overseas funds, asserting that such claims must be supported by strong evidence.
Responding to accusations connected to a viral video involving an individual identified as Albert Tay, Anwar stated that he would not entertain baseless claims.
He emphasized that the law applies to everyone and invited anyone with proof of wrongdoing to come forward through the proper channels.
“If there is evidence, bring it forward. No one is exempt. If there is no evidence, I will not entertain it,” the Prime Minister told reporters when asked to comment on the matter today.
Demands for investigation into viral claims
The controversy gained traction after Bersatu Information Chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz called on the authorities to investigate a viral recording.
The recording features an individual known as Sofia Rini making serious allegations involving alleged misconduct by a former officer to a Prime Minister.
According to Tun Faisal, the video contains several significant claims, including allegations that money purportedly stolen by the former officer was transported to Africa for safekeeping.
The video further suggests that these actions were carried out under the direct instruction of the Prime Minister.
Sofia Rini also allegedly claimed that the Prime Minister would seek refuge in Africa or Turkiye should any major political instability occur in Malaysia.
The recording further alleges that the named former officer possesses wealth totaling billions of ringgit.
Focus on national governance
Anwar reiterated that he carries a heavy responsibility in governing the nation and cannot afford to respond to every unverified comment or allegation circulating on social media.
He cautioned that without proof, such narratives merely serve as a “nest of slander.”
“I have a lot of work. If there is evidence, bring it forward. If not, it will only become a nest of slander,” he said during a meet-and-greet session held at the IPG Temenggong Ibrahim campus.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore a firm stance against the use of social media to spread unsubstantiated claims against public officials, maintaining that his administration remains focused on national priorities.
