Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says the government will keep RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre under the BUDI95 subsidy scheme.
This applies to eligible Malaysians.
At a special press conference, Anwar said supplies remain ample to hold the price at least until May.
Petronas ensures steady supply
Crude oil topped US$100 per barrel on March 9. It eased yesterday to about US$90.
“Thanks to Petronas and government management, we secure enough RON95 to maintain RM1.99 per litre under Budi95,” said Anwar.
He also serves as finance minister.
Petronas confirmed petroleum products will last until at least May 2026.
Shielding from global oil shocks
Anwar called this achievement worth celebrating.
The government prioritises people’s welfare. It aims to shield Malaysians from full oil price and essential goods hikes.
“RM1.99 differs sharply from market rates,” he noted. “Actual prices run far higher—triple our rate compared to neighbours.”
On March 1, Anwar pledged to hold RON95 steady despite global uncertainty from US-Israel strikes on Iran.
Malaysia faces oil price rises from Strait of Hormuz shipping disruptions. Still, the government stands firm on BUDI95 subsidies.
