Bersatu election director Mohamed Azmin Ali has expressed confidence that the party will produce a “surprise” result in the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1, citing what he described as growing public support across the state.
Speaking at a ceramah in Taman Sri Pulai, Azmin said Bersatu’s campaign had gained momentum in every district and believed the increasing visibility of the party’s hibiscus logo reflected rising voter support.
“We are confident after seeing the ‘red wave’ of the hibiscus fluttering across every district. That will translate into a surprise result,” he said.
Azmin also claimed that many voters were becoming disillusioned with politics centred on race, religion and division.
He said Bersatu was committed to serving all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion, and described the party as an “umbrella” that would protect the interests of every community.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, Sikamat candidate Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, Ampangan candidate Noor’azah Harun, Lenggeng candidate Zool Amali Hussin and Temiang candidate Fazly Hamid also attended the event.
Azmin criticises unity government
Azmin claimed the Negeri Sembilan state election was called earlier than expected because of differences within the unity government between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) at both the federal and state levels.
He said although both coalitions were part of the same government, they were pursuing different political agendas.
“They are in the same government under the same prime minister, but it is like sleeping on the same pillow while dreaming different dreams,” he said.
Azmin also alleged that both coalitions were too focused on retaining power and had forced voters into an unnecessary election.
He urged voters to give Bersatu the opportunity to govern the state if PH and BN could no longer work together effectively.
Bersatu promises economic opportunities
Azmin said Bersatu’s campaign was centred on improving the state’s economy, particularly by creating more employment opportunities for young people.
He said the party planned to introduce programmes that would not only generate jobs but also equip youths with better skills to earn higher incomes, especially through economic spillover from industrial development.
Azmin urged voters to look beyond conventional politics and support Bersatu’s bid to form the next Negeri Sembilan state government.
