Bersatu has appointed vice-presidents Radzi Jidin and Ahmad Faizal Azumu to carry out the duties of deputy president following the sacking of Hamzah Zainudin from both the post and the party.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the decision was made unanimously by the party’s Supreme Council during a meeting held this morning.
“I hereby call on all Bersatu members to remain calm while the leadership team, together with me, steers the party back onto its original path of serving and defending the rakyat,” Muhyiddin said in a statement.
The transition comes amid a turbulent period for the party. Hamzah, who also serves as the Opposition Leader, was among 17 Bersatu leaders reported to have been expelled yesterday (February 13, 2026).
The infighting within Bersatu had intensified due to a leadership tussle between Muhyiddin and Hamzah.
Simultaneously, Muhyiddin has been facing mounting pressure to resign following his decision to relinquish the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairmanship on January 1, following a dispute with PAS.
Earlier this week, Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee became the first high-ranking leader to publicly urge Muhyiddin to step down, citing a failure to manage the party’s internal crisis.
Yesterday, 16 Bersatu MPs echoed this sentiment, leading to the dismissal of several prominent members, including Hamzah and MPs from Padang Rengas and Gerik.
