A Bersatu division chief has urged PAS to step in and mediate amid the ongoing party crisis triggered by recent disciplinary measures against several leaders.
Kota Melaka Bersatu chief Hishamuddin Karim believes PAS, as the primary partner in Perikatan Nasional, can help calm the tensions within Bersatu.
Among those sanctioned is Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, accused of breaching the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal faced a similar suspension.
Wan Saiful has observed that PAS currently drives the coalition’s direction, while Wan Fayhsal suggested Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin is better suited to lead PN with PAS support.
In his statement today, Hishamuddin called for an official PAS clarification to end the confusion sparked by individuals misusing PAS leaders’ names to defend their actions.
“I appeal to PAS, PN’s key partner, to act wisely and diffuse this mess,” he said.
“Some keep citing PAS figures to excuse behaviour against party discipline.”
Hishamuddin expressed gratitude to PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan for voicing worries over Bersatu’s stability before the Sabah state election.
He viewed Takiyuddin’s remarks as genuine support from a PN ally.
“This should be seen as sincere concern from a component party for Bersatu’s steadiness ahead of the Sabah polls,” he added.
Takiyuddin noted yesterday that Bersatu’s internal troubles, including leader sackings, have impacted the party as it gears up for Sabah.
In a Harian Metro report, he stressed the need for all PN parties to stay stable and focused on common objectives.
Without specifics on the disciplinary steps, Takiyuddin said any group in “internal crisis” suffers in its operations.
“We urge PN friends—not just Bersatu, as others face issues too—to avoid this now. Stabilise and resolve amicably,” he said.
