Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has denied claims that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is moving towards cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH), insisting the matter has never been discussed at any party platform or meeting.
The Bersatu information chief said allegations linking the supposed move to the party’s secretary-general Mohamed Azmin Ali were completely untrue.
He also described the idea of cooperation between Bersatu and PH as illogical, noting that Bersatu was among the parties involved in bringing down the PH government after the 14th general election.
No discussions held within party
“Not true. It has never been discussed in the Political Bureau, the Supreme Leadership Council, or in any unofficial discussions within the party,” he said in a statement today.
Tun Faisal said if there had been any effort towards such cooperation, there would already be signs or political movements indicating the direction.
He cited the statutory declaration movement linked to supporters of Hamzah Zainudin as an example of how political manoeuvres usually become visible within party circles.
“So far, there have been no signs pointing in that direction. It would be illogical,” he said.
Rumours previously surfaced suggesting Bersatu could return to PH following reported tensions in the party’s relationship with PAS.
Anthony Loke urges caution
Earlier, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke reminded PH to be cautious about cooperating with any political party, particularly Bersatu and PAS.
He reportedly said PH had previously gone through bitter experiences while working alongside both parties.
Tun Faisal also stressed that Bersatu was not adopting the same approach as Umno, which is currently cooperating with PH.
Azmin defended over disciplinary issues
At the same time, Tun Faisal defended Mohamed Azmin Ali over claims linking him to recent disciplinary action within Bersatu.
He said disciplinary matters were handled solely by the party’s disciplinary board under the Bersatu constitution.
“The disciplinary board is carrying out its duties as provided under the Bersatu constitution to act against those who violate the party constitution and discipline, betray the party, hold illegal and unauthorised negotiations with outside parties, and commit other disciplinary offences,” he said.
Tun Faisal added that not all individuals involved had been expelled from the party, as some were only suspended while others received warnings.
“It has nothing to do with Mohamed Azmin. He did not violate the party constitution or the party’s code of ethics and conduct,” he said.
