Bersatu Kelantan has not ruled out the possibility of PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang being appointed as the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, following Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision to step down from the post today (January 1, 2026).
Bersatu Kelantan State Chairman Kamaruddin Md Noor noted that since Bersatu and PAS are the two largest entities in the coalition, it is logical for a PAS leader to take the helm.
He mentioned that Muhyiddin had previously offered the post to Abdul Hadi, though it was declined at the time.
“According to the PN constitution, the coalition is led by party heads, and if PAS is to lead, it would naturally be Tan Sri Abdul Hadi,” Kamaruddin said at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport during a Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) event.
Meanwhile, PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari hinted that the successor might not necessarily be Abdul Hadi, but rather an individual capable of uniting the coalition’s strengths.
PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man confirmed that the party will propose several names for consideration at the upcoming PN Supreme Council meeting.
