Bersatu maintains it is not short of leadership despite ongoing internal challenges stemming from actions by supporters of the sacked former deputy president Hamzah Zainudin.
Assurance on division stability
Information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said divisions affected by the fallout have capable succession lines to sustain the party’s mission.
“Insya-Allah, for every troubled division, other leaders will step forward. This party is not short of leaders,” he said in a statement today.
He explained that if a division chief is unavailable, the deputy, vice-chiefs, and committee members can take up the responsibility.
Clarification on division status
The internal crisis deepened after the expulsion of Hamzah and 16 other leaders, along with reports suggesting some divisions had been dissolved.
However, secretary-general Mohamed Azmin Ali firmly denied any dissolutions, pointing out that only the Supreme Leadership Council holds the power to dissolve divisions.
Division committees lack authority to disband themselves, he stressed.
Tun Faisal, an MPT member, described the removal of those linked to internal rifts as a chance to bolster the party from the ground up.
Opportunity for renewal
“This situation provides an opportunity for new figures, from both within and outside the party, to champion Bersatu’s agenda,” he said.
He likened lingering disruptive elements to a ‘thorn in the flesh’ or ‘fire in the chaff’ that had hindered progress.
“Alhamdulillah, those who betrayed the party are gone,” Tun Faisal added.
He explained that the Disciplinary Board made the decision to sack Hamzah under Clause 22 of the party constitution and its Code of Ethics.
The board acted after Hamzah, as deputy president, failed to stop his followers from repeatedly breaching party rules and discipline, which harmed Bersatu’s reputation.
