A Bersatu Supreme Council member has urged party president Muhyiddin Yassin to clarify whether his son-in-law, fugitive businessman Adlan Berhan, has fled Malaysia, following reports of Adlan living extravagantly abroad.
Saifuddin Abdullah pressed Muhyiddin for answers in the party’s WhatsApp group, noting that the issue had been raised in Parliament twice without any response.
The matter surfaced again yesterday during Muhyiddin’s speech in the budget debate, but the Pagoh MP remained silent, Saifuddin said.
“If the father-in-law stays quiet, how can we address this?” he asked, emphasizing the need for clarity to protect the party’s reputation.
Saifuddin expressed sympathy for Muhyiddin but stressed the urgency of resolving the issue to prevent Bersatu from facing public criticism.
Adlan and his lawyer, Mansoor Saat, are wanted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to assist in a probe related to a project involving foreign worker biometric data registration, recruitment, and storage.
Police have confirmed an arrest warrant for Adlan, with Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail stating that the businessman is currently overseas.
Saifuddin said he initially refrained from commenting but spoke out after seeing internal party criticism targeting deputy president Hamzah Zainudin for not defending Muhyiddin.
“This morning, some in our WhatsApp groups attacked Hamzah, so I decided to raise the issue myself,” he said.
A recent New Straits Times report claimed Adlan has been living luxuriously in a Middle Eastern country since fleeing Malaysia over two years ago.
Photos shared with the newspaper allegedly show Adlan alongside prominent regional figures, including one featuring a portrait of a national leader.
A source told the NST that Adlan frequently travels abroad, including to Thailand, where he reportedly enjoys golf and visits shooting ranges.
