Bersatu plans to file a report with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) over its status as a Perikatan Nasional (PN) component party following PAS’s claim that the party had automatically ceased to be a coalition member.
Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz accused PAS of repeatedly acting against the PN constitution and decisions of the coalition’s Supreme Council, including denying Bersatu’s rights as a component party.
“All these actions need to be reported to the RoS so they can immediately be stopped,” he said, according to Utusan Malaysia.
Bersatu accuses PAS of undermining PN decisions
Tun Faisal claimed that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was effectively in control of PN, while coalition chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who is also a PAS vice-president, was merely a puppet leader.
“The PAS president is able to do as he likes, even questioning and defying the PN Supreme Council’s decisions,” he said.
He stressed that PN should not be managed in the same manner as PAS and must instead be administered fairly, transparently and with integrity in accordance with its constitution.
“PN isn’t like PAS. PN must be managed fairly, transparently and with integrity, according to the constitution,” he said.
Hadi claims Bersatu has lost PN membership
Two days ago, Hadi claimed that Bersatu was no longer a PN component party, arguing that the coalition’s constitution provides for the automatic termination of membership if a party chooses to join or form another alliance.
He cited a previous statement by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin that the party would form a new coalition with several parties after the Negeri Sembilan state election.
However, Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali rejected Hadi’s claim, saying there was no provision in the PN constitution for the automatic termination of a party’s membership.
