Bersatu remains strong despite the resignation of several party leaders in Perlis, including Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah from the party’s Supreme Council, president Muhyiddin Yassin said.
Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, Muhyiddin said Abu Bakar had resigned from the Supreme Council but remained a Bersatu member.
‘He resigned as a member of the Supreme Council, but he is still a Bersatu member,’ he said.
Muhyiddin added that he would first obtain a full report on the matter before commenting further.
‘However, I will obtain a full report on the actual situation. As for internal party matters, I will not discuss them much outside the party,’ he said.
Muhyiddin and his wife, Noorainee Abdul Rahman, cast their ballots at SMK Sri Muar.
Party remains intact
Asked about the recent resignations involving several party leaders, Muhyiddin maintained that Bersatu remained united and unaffected.
‘Insya-Allah. Bersatu remains as it is,’ he said.
Several Perlis leaders step down
Abu Bakar had earlier confirmed his resignation as a Bersatu Supreme Council member, saying he wanted to focus fully on administering the Perlis state government.
Sena assemblyman and state executive councillor Marzita Mansor also submitted her resignation letter last week.
Perlis Bersatu secretary and Senator Azahar Hassan likewise announced that he was leaving the party and relinquishing all his positions with immediate effect.
