Barisan Nasional will respect any final call by the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC), including a potential departure from the long-standing coalition, Barisan chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on Wednesday.
No Interference in MIC’s Internal Affairs
Zahid emphasised that he has no plans to meddle in MIC’s deliberations, leaving the matter entirely in the party’s hands.
“Whatever decision they reach, we will embrace it with an open and sincere heart,” he told reporters after attending the Global Chinese Economic & Technology Summit 2025.
Summit Focuses on Digital and Green Shifts
The event, themed “Global Leadership & Partnerships in the Era of Digital and Green Transformation”, took place at Wisma MCA here.
MCA president Wee Ka Siong was among those present.
At MIC’s 79th annual general meeting on Sunday (November 16), delegates unanimously endorsed a resolution for the party to pull out of Barisan.
The ultimate verdict rests with party president SA Vigneswaran and the senior leadership, who also received a mandate to pursue ties with Perikatan Nasional if suitable.
Meeting with MIC Leaders Deemed the Right Step
Zahid welcomed remarks by Barisan deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan about organising talks with MIC’s top figures to hash out the issue.
“That is the most appropriate path ahead. The result, whatever it may be, belongs to the party in question,” Zahid added.
The development comes amid Sabah’s state election campaign, underscoring the fluid alliances in Malaysia’s political scene.
