The Barisan Nasional Supreme Council will convene in January to address several issues involving its component parties.
This includes the status of MIC within the coalition.
Chairman Outlines Meeting Plans
Chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the MIC matter was not discussed at the Umno General Assembly.
Umno’s position in BN remains unchanged, he said.
Decision Venue Clarified
The issue will be resolved at the BN Supreme Council’s top leadership meeting.
“We will hold a BN Supreme Council meeting in January next year, and that is where the decision will be made,” Zahid told reporters in Sabak Bernam.
Umno-MIC Ties Steady for Now
Zahid emphasised that Umno’s relationship with MIC in BN stays the same.
This holds until the Supreme Council deliberations.
MIC’s Postponed Decision
The 79th MIC general assembly deferred its choice on staying in or leaving BN.
This followed deputy president M. Saravanan tabling three motions, including one to exit and join the opposition bloc.
Earlier Comments from BN Secretary-General
BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir had said the Supreme Council would meet soon after the Sabah state election.
The focus now is on supporting the Sabah polls, he noted.
MCA’s Stance on Coalition Future
MCA passed a resolution to leave BN if any component cooperates with DAP in the 16th General Election.
President Wee Ka Siong said such a move would mean the BN spirit no longer exists.
MCA’s Warning on Cooperation
“If any BN component cooperates with DAP in any form during the upcoming general election, our party will independently determine a new direction,” Wee stated at the MCA Central Committee general assembly.
He added that MCA elected representatives must honour their BN mandate despite uncertainties.
